Posture Makes Perfect

roper posture #2
Last week we looked at the Japanese correct posture for sitting, standing, etc. And how it might effect your surfing technique

A straight up and down back leads to a sitting posture during surfing. It makes your center of balance behind your heels. Not good.

See here how her legs and back are aligned together. Another good point is she is looking to the future

Watch good surfers and notice where their back is compared to their legs.

Again back aligned with the knees. However, this time more tight angles. She is leaning more forward to set her inside rail.

So you might think leaning more forward is better then ? Not true.

There is the extreme opposite to where the back is Hunched over. Here her stiff straight up and down legs causes her back to over compensate.

So the key here is to not let you head get too ahead or behind your butt. Have soft knees but don't sit. Lean with the wave but dont hunch over. Balance of the two leads to .......... hmmm ........ good balance.

check http://starb.on.coocan.jp/ and see if you can find proper surfing postures
