Open Your Hands

Good surfers do this .....
Good surfers open their front hand during a back side turn or cutback

His front ( right ) hand is beginning to open. It is leading the twist of the chest and hips

Notice his palm is facing down ? it is rotating around his back as his back hand is coming across his chest

Here her palm is facing up to the sky. That forces the shoulder to close when actually it should be opened to the wave. You can also see the wrist watch face is pointed down.

Nice big open palm. You can almost see the curve of his elbow bending backwards. That is a good sign

This is completely opposite. See how the fingers with the bent wrist is trying to steer. Elbow is cocked up and forward. Shoulder is pointed "left" when she wants to go "right".

Try standing in you living room and copy this riders arm/hand position. Then try to copy the rider one photo above. ( both are goofy footers so the right hand is the focus ). Can you feel your shoulders pointing in different directions ?

Nice setup. Her weight is over the back foot ( see her front foot laying on its side ). Eyes looking through the turn. See her left hand extending and reaching back to the wave.

Reaching for her turn in / pivot point. See the sun light reflecting off her open palm. Beautiful turn !!

Be a Good surfer and Open your palm. Makes a Big difference. try it next time.
