More on Posture

apanese proper posture - and surfing
Japanese are famous world wide for their Posture. ( but is that good for surfing ? ........ hmmmm )

Young children are taught very early the proper posture for sitting, standing, etc.

Even Japanese sports ( martial arts ) has rigorous training to keep the back and spine proper aligned

In business , there are the do and don'ts of posture

But take a look at the photo above. If you were to suddenly pull the chair out from under the man, which one would most likely fall backwards ? left or right ?

This surfer looks fine trimming along the wave. But i noticed something a little wrong with her "proper posture"

Her straight upright back causes her center of balance behind her heels. So when she goes left, there is no more movement available, she then falls back. ( see her right hand unconsciously bracing for something )

It is like standing straight up on a rug and someone pulls it out. If you knew he would do that , you would ready yourself by LEANING forward.

You can see clearly her head and butt are behind her heels. So to make up for the imbalance she bends her knees out . Her legs and back are not aligned.

She has great posture for surfing. The legs and back are aligned together. ( notice i used the seam off her right leg to mark the yellow line since that where her pressure is )

More next week on surfing posture, stay tuned ! but until then check out http://starb.on.coocan.jp/
