X Is Bad, says the man in the Korner

X-factor Japan
During surfing there are good X and bad X.

Here is the Good. Cross stepping to the nose. Rear foot crosses over the Front foot, creating a X leg pattern. ( check out the Tail Lock started from center of the inside rail )

Here is the Bad. Knees joined together. That restricts the twisting of the knee, waist, etc. That in turn causes her to lean back not turn. Can you see both feet on only on the heels, toes lifting off the board.

When you knees come together, it forces both feet to point at each other. That X stance causes a lot of problems. It is impossible to have the proper 1 and 3 o'clock stance.

I understand she needs to brace her front knee against the back knee because the pressure is too great. To fix this, she should have stepped her foot back over the fins to create more leverage ( in both photos, she is trying to turn from the center of the board )

She is probably just lowering her center of gravity to make it thru the section. But notice her left knee ( which is the front foot ) is pointed to the rail which causes the bad X

Pure Perfection. Back foot's toes still pointed to the rail ( even though now it is in the front ) Front foot's toes still directed towards the nose area. Eyes up, shoulders and hands relaxed. soft/flexible legs but still "proud" stance. Nice X

check out http://starb.on.coocan.jp/ for more X ( and maybe Y and Z )
