"Keep your head over your butt"
Okay you have heard me say over and over again, " Keep your head over your butt ."
Well, that is true for most surfers. BUT once you get really good at surfing you can break those rules.
His head is Way behind his butt. He is doing a Lean or Arch turn. His head is still over the center of the board but his knees ( actually thighs ) are driving the board through the bottom turn.
Same thing here. Her lower body is leading the board to the turn in target point she is looking at.
Notice Go Suzuki's body is really bowed out like a .......... hmmm .........
like shooting a bow and arrow. You resist the the tension then let go. The surfer fights the tension of the wave's energy against the board at the bottom turn, then releases that energy
This is not a arch turn, this is falling backwards. Why ? Once her knees locked out, only the upper body could move up and back. ( see her toes coming up ). In this instance she should keep her head over the center of the board and center of gravity lower.
But remember, doing Arch or Lean turns are done after you can do regular bottom turns. Learn the basics first, then as you improve you can do more fun things. Until then keep your head over your butt !!
next week , more "rule breaking". until then check out http://starb.on.coocan.jp/ to see some leans and arches
