Open and Shut case
So people ask me, " how can I cutback harder " Some instructors would say more rail pressure. But most beginners dont understand what or how to do that
an easy way is to think Open and Closed ( or Shut ) like a door. Here the door is OPEN ......
Here the door is CLOSED. notice too her arms lead the action
Swing the door Open with the left .......
now SLAM the door shut !! Much easier then remembering which is the inside rail and which is the outside rail
Here her body looks tense and guarded. Its not really open or close but in between
notice her front arm is blocking the view of her chest. That is a Closed position.
see her sighting her turn in point. now she on her inside rail
now she transitions from inside rail to the flat bottom of her board
now she rolls to the outside rail by really OPENing up her upper body. This will lead to CLOSing the door on the roundhouse cutback
Miku Uemura looking at the breaking lip coming at her. Her back hand is going forward
Now at the apex, she throws her back arm to the rear. Not really a cutback but a simple topturn. I noticed that Miku uses her back hand more than her front, that her unique style.
so remember to OPEN and CLOSE when you do cutbacks.
